GNU AGPLv3 License

A Parliament of Owls (APOO) is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPLv3). This license is designed to keep software freedom intact—even when the software is run as a network service.

Self-hosting is encouraged

You can run APOO for your community, organization, or public forum. The goal is a powerful forum that is free, open, and accessible.

Modifications must be shared (including over the network)

If you modify APOO and provide it to users over a network (for example, hosting it as a service), the AGPLv3 requires you to offer users access to the corresponding source code of your modified version.

Use it commercially

AGPLv3 does not prevent commercial use. It sets conditions so improvements remain available to users when the software is offered as a service.

Keep the license and notices intact

Distributions must preserve license notices and include the AGPLv3 terms. This is standard open-source hygiene.

Looking for the full license text? The canonical AGPLv3 license text is published by the Free Software Foundation. When you publish the APOO repository, include a COPYING (or LICENSE) file containing the full AGPLv3 text.
